The art and science of governing is political science. It has been a preoccupation of intellectuals since the time of Aristotle and serves as a foundation for humanistic studies. Political science education can help you prepare for a range of professions that need advanced analytical and communication skills. Political campaigns, local and national government careers, journalism, business, law, and international agencies are just a few of the career options that are available.Political science is significant not only for careers in government and local government, but also for everyday life. Understanding and knowledge of how the world works can be enhanced by studying political science. The Department of Political Science offers certain undergraduate programmes with this perspective in mind.

The first undergraduate programme of the department was started in 1937 in combination with Economics and History (EHP) with sanctioned annual intake of 30 students later with Sociology (SHP) and with Philosophy (PPP) groups emerged and continues with a strength of EHP 60, SHP 30, PPP 30 and EHPub Adm 30 total students raised to 150 in all groups.

Illustrious Almuni of the Department

Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, popularly known as NTR, was an Indian actor, producer, director, film editor and politician who served as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for seven years over three terms. He starred in over 300 films, predominantly in Telugu cinema, and was referred to as Viswa Vikhyatha Nata Sarwa Bhouma. NTR who changed Andhra Politics completely and become a trend setter in Indian Political arena was a student of this prestigious college.

P. S. Ramamohan Rao (born 31 July 1934) is a former Indian civil servant. He served as the Governor of Tamil Nadu from 18 January 2002 to 4 November 2004.[1] He enlisted in the Indian Police Service in October 1956. He is a retired Director General of Police of Andhra Pradesh.[2] He was awarded the Indian Police Medal in 1974 and the President's Police Medal in 1982.The department also undertakes coaching for civil services, groups and various other competitive examinations conducted by numerous recruitment agencies.

V Rama Rao (12 December 1935 – 17 January 2016) served as Governor of Sikkim[1] from 2002–2007 was a student of this illuminated college. He started his political career in 1956 when he joined Jana Sangh and went on to become a National Leader of Bharatiya Janata Party and was elected to Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Council from Hyderabad Graduates' Constituency for four consecutive terms in 1966, 1972, 1978 and 1984. He served as a Party Floor Leader in council during his last term.
