ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

  • The Department of Zoology, SRR and CVR Government Degree College (A) has been handling Zoology for B.Sc. BZC at undergraduate level from the year of establishment since 1937.
  • The department zoology has introduced New Market Oriented Course with Aquaculture Technology, Zoology and Chemistry combinations from the year 2017-18 onwards.
  • It has be promising course and has been transformed as Embedded Aquaculture technology Course from the year 2019-20 so as to give the students  an opportunity for field experience in Semester V in the final year of the course.   In view of giving complete skill to the aquaculture students, the department of zoology has introduced B.Voc Aquaculture Technology after getting due permission from UGC.
  • The department has three well qualified and highly experienced permanent faculty members, who constantly strive for academic excellence and dissemination of knowledge to its student community. The faculty is active in its research endeavours and are resource persons to different autonomous colleges as subject expert members in Board of Studies in their respective colleges.
  • The faculty participated in national and international seminars on a regular basis. Guest lectures are conducted regularly with an aim to expose the students to latest trends in various research fields. This also serves as a forum to all science faculty and students and also science lovers from other departments to gain and understand of the latest happenings in the field of science.
  • Regular Guest lectures are arranged by experts in their fields to commemorate and remember science important days
  • Regular certificate course in vermicompost preparation is part and parcel of the curriculum.
  • Field visits are part of the curriculum so as to expose the students to natural and realistic environment.
  • Short term Training programmes are conducted in collaboration with respective organizations which are excelling in their respective fields such as SIFT state institute of fisheries technology Kakinada, KVR Ghantasala etc.
  • Awareness programmes are conducted which are of day to day importance in our daily life in fields of health, science and social issues in the society.
  • The department obtained MoU’s from various institutes and organizations which are useful for the students for collaborative works, knowledge sharing and employment.
  •  The department has well equipped lab with LCD for regular class presentations with internet facility.
  • The department is rich good number of specimens that are maintained in the museum from the year establishment.
  •  National Seminars and workshops are conducted often in various new and innovative areas for the up gradation and up-to-date knowledge in various fields.
  • Regular research papers are published from the faculty members which speaks about the research activities from the department.
  • The students drop out are very less. Majority of the students opt for higher studies in various reputed institutions and other universities.
  • Many students qualify themselves in different competitive exams conducted by the private and government organizations. Few students qualify themselves in the job drives conducted by the JKC placement cell.

  • To provide a comprehensive training in theoretical and practical Zoology and Aquaculture to students.
  • Conducting Field trips / Educational tours to giving exposure to the students by visiting Dairy industry, fisheries, poultry sectors etc.
  • To motivate students to conduct seminars, workshops on the topics included in the curriculum. It will help in achieving academic excellence and exposure.
  • To equip students with adequate practical skills that will enable them function productively in society.
  • To sensitize human society for animal welfare, conservation and protection of biodiversity.
  • To develop the attitude of the students to concentrate on applied science aspects
  • To develop research aptitude and a scientific advancement.
