    History of the Department:
           The Department of Commerce  was established in the year 1938. Since then the department has steadily grown and achieved several

          milestones. In its initial stage, the department offered only  general B.com programme. Gradually it expanded its courses based on

          time and market demands and at present it is enhanced to 7 U.G .programmes and 2 P.G. programmes.The Commerce Department

         occupies a substantial share in the  Institution in terms of the strength of both students and faculty. The Commerce student’s occupancy

         rate is around 40% of the total strength of the Institution.

     Highlights of the department:

  •  The Department  offers Total 9 programs, 7 U.G and 2 P.G. programs which are suitable for present competitive world. The Department of Commerce offers  General B.Com programme along with 6 Restructured courses - B.Com- Computer Application, B.Com – Banking Insurance and Financial Services, B.Com- Accounting and Taxation, BBA- General, BBA- Digital Marketing and Bachelor of vocational in Logistic Management which required good career opportunities in the present competitive world.         

  •  The Department has an attainment of  pass percentage of 80 to 90% in core subjects and 90 to 100% in life skill and skill development courses for UG programmes and 100% pass percentage in PG programmes.

  • The department offered 2 value added courses such as Accounting Executive (Tally ) and Executive Development Programme in Stock market operations  one batch each in the three academic years 2018-19, 2019-20, and 2021-22. We also offered a Value added course in Digital Marketing in collaboration with Anudeep foundation one batch in the academic year 2019-20. From the academic year 2022-23 the department is planning to introduce a new add on course on Cyber Banking.

  • The department is functioning with 24 highly qualified, knowledgeable, and dynamic faculty members.( 12 Regular, 1 contract, and 11 Guest Faculty.) Out of the total faculty, 5 faculty members have doctorates, 6 Faculty members are pursuing their Ph.D and 3 Members are having M.Phil Degrees,   3 faculty are qualified  in both NET & SLET, 6  faculty are qualified  in NET and  6  faculty are qualified  in SLET.

  • The faculty members of the Department have completed 22 refresher courses and 12 Faculty development courses over the past 5 Years in offline and online mode, offered by Academic staff colleges of various universities and ARPIT in SWAYAM. Some of the faculty also undergone MOOCS Training Programme.

  • All the  faculty members use ICT-based teaching-learning procedures in their teaching pattern.

  • The Department is having a  Computer Lab with 50 computers.

  •  Most of the students hail from an economically poor background. In support of these students, the Department of Commerce & Management initiated 30-day free coaching to II & III year B.Com/BBA students who had the aptitude for competitive spirit by the renowned coaching center IACE( Indian Academy of Competitive Exams).
