The Department of Psychology started functioning from the establishment of the College i.e., in (15-06-1937) UG Programme was started in ( 01-05-1938) and it was promoted as a Post Graduate Department in the year 2016-17 (M.A.Psychology) and 2020-21 (M.A. counselling psychology) it has been committed towards creating, assimilating and disseminating knowledge through teaching, research and extension services and developing human resources in the field of Psychology.
The Department of Psychology is active not only in teaching the syllabus prescribed by the College at the Under Graduate level but also in developing the overall personality of the individual. For this the Department organizes several co-curricular and extra-curricular activities such as Seminars, Workshops, and Conferences on matters of psychology significance etc., in which the students are encouraged to participate. Besides learning in theory classes, students also learn themselves by using computers, internet services, debating competitions, tutorials/homework, project work, internship etc. are assigned to them. It helps them in independent learning. Students learn & collect a lot of information during tours. Seminars by students on the topics of their interest help to enhance their perception of the subject. Project work assigned to them also help in independent learning. This helps students to set methodology for their work, which in turn helps them to write psychology articles.
The department also organizes guest lectures and lecture series to keep abreast developments in various fields especially on current topics.
Now the Department has 3 faculty members of high competence specializing in the areas of general psychology, psychopathology, counselling psychology, sports psychology, organizational psychology and education psychology, social psychology. the Department has considerable expertise in studies.

Degree College, Krishna University, aspires to be a leader in India of psychology in education (undergraduate and graduate) and related fields, by imparting quality education, enhancing research programs, updating skills and inculcating values, ethics among students. We strive to make significant contributions to the science and practice of psychology, and to produce professionals who serve the local, national. and global communities.

Mission
The Department of Psychology is committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education. Our undergraduate and graduate program (Counselling Psychology) provides a foundation for the scientific understanding of behavior and mental processes and promotes scholarship and service.

To prepare students to become licensed Psychologists, School Psychology Specialists, and Licensed Professional Counselors and in various other fields.
• To increase employment opportunities for our students who will be part of enhancing and providing evidence-based services for children, adults, and families in a variety of healthcare and educational settings in the upcoming years.

Departmental Library
Department has a separate departmental library apart from the central library of the college. The library is run by students and staff committee. The library has about 100 books.
Counseling
The faculty offer project-based education at final year of UG. The faculty members provide academic and personal counseling during the admission entry level, regarding selection of optional subjects, competitive exams, scope of the subject employment opportunities, etc. It also renders counseling services to its students on a continuous basis in the area of NET, APSET, higher studies of psychological & clinical rehabilitation studies, and other professional areas.
