Department Introduction

The Department of Sociology was established in the S.R.R & C.V.R GOVT DEGREE COLLEGE in 1937  eminent sociologist Professor M.N. Srinivas as Head of the DepartmentMany dedicated and committed lecturers have been actively associated with the department teaching Sociology, imparting sound knowledge and moulding the character of the students. The Department has a coordinated programme of teaching and research covering a variety of fields, including some developed for the first time in the country. Studies have been published or prepared on community power structures, local-level politics, trade unions, co-operatives, textual and contextual studies of Hinduism, religious symbolism, family and kinship, and social and religious movements. Studies have also been conducted in the fields of stratification, gender, environment, the sociology of development, historical sociology, urban sociology, and medical sociology.

The department of  Sociology has a clear vision to empower the students with value based holistic education and transform them as enlightened citizens of the country with global standards through incessant pursuit of excellence. we also work to get outstanding academic performance with quest for excellence in teaching, learning and research to impart, sustain and apply knowledge and skills in an interdisciplinary environment with consideration for ethical, social and ecological values to carve out professionals of integrity and character for nation building.
