Nutrition and Health care Club of Department of Biochemistry, SRR & CVR GDC (A) is an association of students and faculty of department of biochemistry, formed in the month of September 2015.
Vision: To develop sensitivity among students in particular and the community in general regarding health and nutrition awareness and maintenance of a healthy lifestyle.
Best Practice-1: BloodGrouping & Hb Estimation
The Context that required the initiation of the practice: As a part of Nutrition and Health Care Club activities, the department of biochemistry has been organizing blood group identification and Hb estimation camps. Accurate blood grouping is essential during a blood transfusion. Not all blood types are compatible, so it’s important to know the accurate blood group of a person. Receiving/donating blood that’s incompatible with your/receiver blood type could trigger a dangerous immune response.
Objectives of the practice:
To identify blood group of newly admitted students.
To motivate students towards blood donation, making students a part of blood donation campaigns
To Find the Hb concentration and to give health education of anemia.
Outcome of the Practice
Blood grouping records are saved. In any emergency regarding rare blood groups in blood banks or for any ICU patients, the students with rare blood groups are identified and informed about the need for blood donation
Girl students with nutritional deficiency anemia were identified and suggested for diet therapy.
Obstacles
The cost of the blood grouping kit , Fainting or feeling lightheaded, Infection at the puncture site,
Impact of the activity
Students actively participated in blood donation campaigns, and became lifesavers during emergencies.
By giving awareness of anemia physical and mental health status can be improved.

Unhealthy lifestyles, poor diets like intake of foods rich in fat, salt and sugar; physical inactivity, consumption of tobacco, excessive use of alcohol, and stress are the main factors for the development of these diseases.Early screening for hypertension, hyperglycemia and obesity may be lifesaving.
Objectives of the practice:
To calculateBMI,blood glucose and BP.
To find the staff and students with obesity, hyperglycemia and hypertension.
Outcome of the Practice
This activity will give awareness to the staff and students about their clinical condition and helps in promoting their health.
Obstacles
Cost of the glucometer strips
Impact of the activity
By knowing the health condition precautions can be taken to improve the health ststus.
Can shift to healthy lifestyle and promote the family health condition.
